Voiding cancels a label with the carrier so it is never collected or billed. You can void a label until the carrier picks the package up.
Void a label
- Open the Operations menu, choose History, and open the shipment.
- Choose More actions, then Void. It is at the bottom of the menu.
- Read the confirmation page. What is being voided lists the shipment, its status, the carrier and its packages, and the page says exactly what will happen.
- Choose the void button, for example Void with UPS. To back out, choose Keep the shipment.
What to know
- Once the carrier has picked the package up, the label cannot be voided. Void is not offered on a delivered shipment either. A label that has been used will be billed. There is also a time limit from when the label was created: 90 days for UPS and 14 days for FedEx. After that the label is billed, and the page tells you to ask your carrier account team for a billing adjustment.
- All packages go together. On a shipment with several packages, the void covers every package. Carriers void a shipment as a whole.
- A return label in the same box is voided too, unless it is already on its way back. Voiding a return label on its own does not affect the outbound shipment.
- It cannot be undone. If you need a new label, open the voided shipment and choose Ship again under More actions. It opens Quick Ship with the same recipient, carrier and service. Enter the package and the other details again.
- The voided label stays on the shipment as a record. It can be viewed but not printed.
- If you do not see Void, voiding is not part of your role. Ask your administrator.
A shipment that never got a label
Void is also offered on drafts and pending shipments. For a draft with no label, the button is Void this shipment, and nothing goes to the carrier. To throw a draft away, you can also choose More actions, then Discard draft. To finish it instead, choose Continue this shipment.
