  6. More than one return label

Power Ship puts several packages on one shipment and lets each return label be charged to its own cost center.

Everything in Create a shipment and print the label works the same way here: the recipient, the service list, the signature and the contents. Customs, the batteries option, references and return labels in the box are shared with Quick Ship too, and are described below. What Power Ship adds is more than one package, and a cost center for each return label. Open the Ship menu and choose Power Ship.

Add packages

The Packages section starts with one package.

  1. Choose Add a package.
  2. In the dialog, fill in Packaging, Weight, Length, Width and Height, and Declared value if you want the contents covered.
  3. Choose Save this package. The package joins the list.
  4. Repeat for each package. Edit or remove a package from its row.

Declared value is per package. It is always shown, because it is your statement about the contents, not a price.

References

The first box in the reference strip, Reference, is your own reference for the shipment, such as a ticket or purchase order number. Fields your organization maps to the carrier's reference slots sit beside it. What you type there is printed on the label and comes back on the carrier's invoice.

Cost centers

The classification block says who is charged for the shipment. Your organization chooses the name for it, so you may see Cost Center, Department, Project or another word. It is usually filled in from your location or your account. If you choose, you are offered only the values your location may charge to. Where your organization allows it, a shipment can carry more than one.

Customs

The Customs section appears only for destinations that need it. Shipping Center builds the commercial invoice from the contents and the carrier files it electronically. Content catalog items carry their customs description, tariff code, country of origin and value, so you do not have to know them.

  • An international shipment with an item that has no customs values is refused, and the message says which.
  • When the goods under one Schedule B or HS classification on a shipment are worth more than $2,500, a US export filing (EEI) may be needed. The test is per classification, never the shipment total. It also applies to shipments to Puerto Rico and the US territories outside customs. The Customs section tells you. Shipping Center does not file it: ask the carrier to file it for you, or use your customs broker, before the package goes. Shipments to Canada do not need it.
  • The carrier's copy of the commercial invoice is kept on the shipment page, on the Commercial invoice card, with View and Download.

Lithium batteries

If the box contains anything with a lithium battery, open Does this contain batteries? and tick This shipment contains lithium batteries. If your carrier account cannot ship them, a note says the option is not available.

More than one return label

Set Return labels in the box to the number of boxes coming back separately, up to 10. Each return label can be charged to its own cost center. Return labels in the box appear only for organizations that use Power Ship. Leaving it on the same cost center as the shipment is always safe.
